CORONA, CA- June 10, 2008. The SoCal Region of the
National Auto Sport Association is pleased to report the successful
conclusion of the 6 Hours of Buttonwillow Presented by AEM. The Mothers
Car Care Products Mazda CX-9 pace car led 40 teams determined to put as
many laps behind them in the first ever 6 hour endurance race out of
the pits just after high noon. The Landmark Motorsports ESR entry led
the field for the first half of the race with stiff competition from
the ATG Racing ESR team in a very close chase. Class battles raged
throughout the entire race with only one full course caution to pick up
a disabled car. The toll of endurance racing forced Prototype
Development (ES), Racing for a Reason (E0), Quattro Motorsports (E1),
Git It Racing (E2), and AdDynamix (E2) to the pits and out of the race
when each of these teams were putting down laps that could have put
them on the podium. The ATG Racing ESR took the overall lead from the
Landmark ESR at one point in the battle, but needed to make a stop for
a splash of fuel just 6 minutes prior to end of the race. Once in the
pits, the ATG team was unable to get the car restarted after the fuel
went in the tank and the Landmark Motorsports ESR was able to put in a
few more laps to regain the lead and take the checker for the overall
and ESR class victory. However, the ATG Racing team had put enough laps
down to capture the second place position while still in pit lane when
the race ended. The E0 win was captured the 2007 25 Hour winning Nitto
Tire BMW of Brett Strom. The second podium spot for E0 was earned by
the Effin Racing BMW separated by a scant 16 seconds from Bullet
Performance in the third spot in class. The ES class winner was Pacific
Power Motorsports and they were also fast enough to finish 5th overall
in their Porsche. Team Pro Truck nabbed the second podium spot in ES
proving the power and reliability of their stock Chevy ZZ4 crate
engine. The B and B Mazda RX7 ran well for the entire race and
dominated the E1 field. 2-3 Enduro Team USA put in a great showing and
earned the second in class for E1. Some of the closest racing
throughout the field happens in E2 and the DivaSpeed team fought hard
to take their Acura Integra to the top spot in the class. The Miata
teams of RDR Miata and RJ Racing earned the 2nd and 3rd spots to round
out the class.
The
E3 class saw the RDR Protégé the sole class entry, so they captured the
class win by running consistently and steady the entire race with no
penalties or failures.
After the podium ceremony the teams
enjoyed a fantastic BBQ and got to enjoy the sounds of the Mike Reilly
Band. This memorable event could not have been possible without the
generous support of SRC Communications, Mazda, Mothers Car Care
products, and especially our presenting sponsor AEM. The next round of
the Western Regional Endurance Series happens on August 9th at Willow
Springs Raceway where teams will challenge each other in a 3 hour night
race at the Fastest Road in the West. To view detailed results please
